It’s not an Olympic party without medal-winning hydration. Our friend Melinda Maddox, manager of Boston’s Backbar, shared some cocktail recipes that are easy to make and will be winners with your guests.

Brazil’s favorite cocktail will be a hit at your party!

“The ‘perfect’ Caipirinha comes down to the limes, sugar, and cachaça,” says Maddox. Cachaça, a liquor made from sugarcane, comes in different varieties, and which one you use comes down to personal preference. Maddox recommends going with either a blanc cachaça, which has more green vegetal notes and a funky edge. Aged cachaça is aged in wood barrels, so the aging process will mellow out the liquor and add in some of the wood flavor. Maddox uses the Avua brand. “It’s delicious and is owned by a small family.”

Per drink
2 oz cachaca
Half a lime cut in quarters
Squeeze the other half of lime juice into the glass
.25 oz 1:1 simple syrup (white sugar)
.25 oz Cane Syrup
Muddle everything including lime pieces together in a glass and top with ice. You can also shake it all together and dump out everything into the glass.
To keep it simple, make a pitcher before your party. You can add everything but the lime pieces into the pitcher. Add ice just before guests will start drinking and then set up the glasses with 2 pieces of lime and ice, and pour over when ready to serve. The lime and sugar and booze as it sits in the pitcher will “steep” and improve flavor over time.
Olympic Rings Inspiration
Another way to go is to have one or more cocktails inspired by the red-yellow-blue-green-black colors of the Olympic rings. You don’t have to do them all–you can have different colors represented in drinks, food and decor.
